Shelley Gershner

Wilson Reading Instructor

Shelley’s background is as colorful as my personality. She was born in Jamaica, West Indies and came to America with her family when she was sixteen years old. While her elementary education was in Jamaica, Shelley completed High School and College in America.

Shelley graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College with an Associates in Liberal Arts and the City College of the University of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She has worked as a Corporate Trainer for several firms in New York City. After getting married, Shelley chose to stay home and raise her three beautiful children; Zachary, Jeremiah and Sarah. While home, she volunteered extensively within her community with the Parent Teachers Association and in her house of worship as the Vice President of Education.

At Voyagers’ Community School, Shelley identifies, educates and assists children within the community to become better readers. She is excited to join her fellow mates on this amazing voyage.

“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.” Maya Angelou.
