Look to the sky and study the clouds. It can tell you so much about the weather. Clouds are poetry in motion. Cloud spotting can be a form of meditation. Clouds have inspired great paintings and have given endless opportunities of inspiration. The Voyagers’ Outdoor Program students have studied the clouds and have become unofficial members of the The Cloud Appreciation Society.

Students started with a discussion about the weather and how the weather affects their daily lives. Then, we went to the cloud viewing arena. Students studied the clouds that were in the sky and drew pictures of what they saw.

Next, students identified the clouds they drew and practiced identifying clouds by name. After they had practice identifying cloud types, they went on the cloud scavenger hunt. Scattered around the lake were 10 cloud type descriptions. In teams of 3 and using their identification guides, students identified all 10 clouds in order to get their cloud identification badge.
